Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for the NWCT Emerging Songwriter Scholarship Program.  Young adults aged 16-25 with a passion for creating music are invited to apply.  Five applicants will be selected based on merit to participate in the program.  The deadline for applications is June 11, 2021.


Awardees will be given the opportunity to participate in creative writing workshops, access licensing to beats by local producers, and to record their own song in a professional setting.  The workshops will cover topics such as techniques for songwriting, resources available for marketing and distribution, and guidance from an entertainment lawyer.


Scholarship recipients will be selected June 15 and the program will run from June 26 - July 31.  All workshops and recording sessions will be hosted by The Outlet for the Arts, a new recording/production studio in Torrington, CT.

Program Guidelines


Overview:
 

Applications are now open for the NWCT Emerging Songwriter Scholarship Program.  Young adults aged 16-25 with a passion for creating music are invited to apply.  Five applicants will be selected based on merit to participate in the program.  The deadline for applications is June 11, 2021.


Qualifications: 

  • The program is open to emerging songwriters aged 16-25.
  • Applicants must reside in the Arts Council’s 25 town service area.
  • Applicants must show aptitude for songwriting and work ethic. 
  • Must be available to participate on both program workshop dates.


Scholarship Award Package:

  • 2 Group Songwriting Workshops 
  • Workshop 1: Saturday June 26, 2021. 9am- 12pm  Creative writing workshop, selecting beats.  Breakfast included.
  • Workshop 2: Saturday July 10, 2021. 9am- 12pm Presentation on how to use PRO Affiliate.  Presentation from entertainment lawyer Robert Sciglimpaglia. Song presentation & group feedback.  Booking recording sessions.  Breakfast included.
  • Licensed use of 1 professionally produced backing beat. 
  • One private recording session up to 4 hours to record and master the final track. 


Timeline: 

  • May 16: Applications Open
  • June 11: Applications Close
  • June 15: Recipients will be notified.
  • June 26: Workshop 1
  • June 27- July 9: Creative Songwriting Period
  • July 10: Workshop 2
  • July 12 - July 31: Recording Sessions


Application Deadline: June 11, 2021


The scholarship program is made possible through funding from the CT Office of the Arts; Bridge Builders Program and matching funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.  The program is presented by the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council in partnership with the Outlet for the Arts.
