A workshop and conversation with
authors Lauren Lipton and Marie Bostwick
about the ins and outs of establish credibility as a writer online.
The workshop will focus on how authors can use the internet to establish and build credibility in the world of publishing.
“Often the biggest challenge a writer has is getting the attention of the publishers and agents,” said Kathy Knapp, Assistant Professor of English and Writing Coordinator at UConn Torrington. “The internet offers a variety of avenues to accomplish this. We are very grateful to have Lauren Lipton and Marie Bostwick, authors with a wealth of experience regarding this topic, lead this workshop.”
Lauren Lipton is the author of two novels, It's About Your Husband (2006) and Mating Rituals of the North American WASP (2009), and a freelance journalist. She covers style, business and trends but specializes in what she has coined the "journalism of manners," exploring the mores and often humorous customs of the upper- and upper middle classes. She has contributed features on society and media to the New York Times Sunday Styles section and was a former Wall Street Journal staff writer. Her work has appeared in Forbes Woman, Ladies' Home Journal, In Style Weddings, Martha Stewart Weddings, Best Life, Conde Nast Portfolio, Glamour, Marie Claire, Fit Pregnancy and Working Mother; on Forbes.com and on National Public Radio's All Things Considered. She began her career at the Los Angeles Times. She is also the creator of the animated Adventures in Freelancing series on YouTube.
Marie Bostwick’s first novel, Fields of Gold, was placed in the finals for RT BOOKclub magazine’s Best Historical Saga Award. Her next novel,River’s Edge, received the Golden Quill Award and was a finalist for a National Reader’s Choice Award. On Wings of the Morning was the sequel to Fields of Gold. Her novellas, A High-Kicking Christmas and The Presents of Angels, which were included, respectively, in the holiday anthologies Comfort and Joy and Snow Angels, appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. Bostwick was nominated for a Career Achievement in Mainstream Novels award by RT BOOKclub. Between Heaven and Texas, out in 2013, is her most recent publication and the latest book in the Cobbled Court Quilt series which she is best known for.
